Informix backups, natively.

A level-0 ontape archive streamed to Xtic as the informix user, or a logical dbexport of one database.

What Xtic runs

ontape
ontape -s -L 0 -t STDIO

Shown with placeholders. Credentials never appear on a command line: they reach the tool through the environment, a file descriptor or a short-lived file in memory.

Restore paths

  • Physical: ontape -p from the stream with the server offline, in a maintenance window
  • Logical: dbimport, renamed for an alternate target

Verification

Exit code and stream on every run. Every artifact is also hashed, and the stored copy is read back and compared before the run counts as verified.

Version rule

Same or newer 15.x.

Good to know

  • dbexport takes an exclusive lock on the database while it runs
  • Licence and editions: Developer and Innovator-C edition limits apply.
